So You Want to Help with the Wiki?
There are two methods to help us edit the information on the Wiki. The first is by adding missing images or short clips (gifs or videos) of confusing instructions or constructed items and structures. The second is by expanding and maintaining the Wiki as Gamemode 4 progresses and grows.
Adding Images
- MediaWiki Documentation on Images: here
Adding images requires an email-confirmed Wiki account. Once logged in, Special:Upload will appear in the sidebar under the Tools section, where you can upload new photos or revise existing images by uploading new ones. Use clean and specific names like File:Ender Hopper Minecart.png. In-game photos are typically taken with the lowest FOV of 30.
*Photos should be taken without a resource pack.*
Adding, Editing, Updating Information
Visual Editor (MediaWiki's Choice)
- For more information, see: Getting Started with the Visual Editor
A simple way to edit with a visual, "What You See is What You Get", interface. As you edit pages using the Visual Editor, the way the page looked while editing almost always looks the same once saved. Creating and formatting text is easiest in the Visual Editor.
- Warning: Item sprites within GM4's custom templates do not show in the Visual Editor.
Source Editor (Wiki Staff Choice)
- For more information, see: Getting Started with the Source Editor
An advanced and enhanced way to edit Wiki pages. The Source Editor requires more work and plenty of time to learn all of the intricacies to make the Wiki look pretty. The Source Editor does not offer suggestions or guidelines on how to approach any specific task. Without prior knowledge, much of the start of Source editing is searching online for MediaWiki reference pages, keywords, and methods. In addition to the built-in MediaWiki functionality, the Gamemode 4 Wiki has spent numerous hours creating customized templates; some from scratch and others modified, for example from the Minecraft Wiki.
